Update:

Microsoft has determined that the security warning prompt is the result of a necessary short-term fix for a separate, recent issue.

They are now creating a long-term fix that will remove the need for this incorrect security warning prompt.

They expect that it will complete development and deploy on Tuesday, August 13, 2024

We will update our Service Status post accordingly as this progresses. Please continue to follow the guidance in our original post.

Investigating

Microsoft has issued two advisory notices that some users may incorrectly receive a security warning prompt when opening Excel files in OneDrive for Business, and SharePoint.

They have specifically mentioned Excel files - but this may extend to the other Office applications - Word, PowerPoint etc.

The prompt may be worded:

"This content presents a potential security issue. Do you trust this content?" - followed by the SharePoint URL.

If you encounter this issue - and the file in question exists in the University OneDrive or SharePoint and the content is known/trusted - select Yes to open the file.

If you still have any further queries - please contact the IT Service Desk with details.
